LOCATION

Agat is located in the beautiful southern region of Guam. The seaside village of Agat lies just south of the U.S. Naval Base and along Guam’s south-western coastline. It is regarded as the western gateway to the south.

LIVING

The beautiful village of Agat is known as being a once – quiet seaside village. Now it has developed into the commercial center of southern Guam. This area is known as the Agat Commercial Point Center and is located at the entrance of the village across Inn on the Bay. This area houses restaurants and businesses for the southern community.

Although the village has experienced an increase in the volume of commercial enterprises, Agat is still very much a residential neighborhood full of culture.  Agat is home to what is called the “old heart of the village”. This is referring to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, convent and school. You will also find a police station, a very active community center, a community library, a senior citizens center, and multiple educational institutions for children of different ages.

Agat possesses four schools in total offering pre-school, elementary school, middle school, and high school curriculum – Marcial A. Sablan Elementary School (kindergarten thru 5th grade –and a Head Start program), Oceanview Middle School (6th thru 8th grade), Our Lady of Mount Carmel School (pre-kindergarten thru 8th grade), and Southern Christian Academy (pre-school thru 12th grade)

ACTIVITIES

One thing you’ll notice about the village of Agat is that there are no shortages of activities to keep you from being entertained. Agat is home to some of the finest beaches on Guam. Nimitz Beach is a popular public beach and recreation area, equipped with pavilions and beautiful surroundings. This is a great location to host gatherings with friends and family. It is also a great location to find relaxation as you enjoy the coastal waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Agat is also home to several historical parks dedicated to the events of World War II. These parks are part of the National Park Service’s War in the Pacific National Historical Parks. Visiting the Agat Beach Unit of the War in the Pacific National Historic Park is a great way to experience part of the island’s history and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Living in Agat provides you opportunities to really enjoy your surroundings. Hiking is another popular activity in the mountainous regions of southern Guam. Mount Alifan is a great hike thru the island’s history of WWII by searching for remnants of battles fought and enjoying the panoramic views of the island’s southern coastlines.

Agat is full of rich history. Another fun hike would be to the Taleyfac and Taelayag Spanish bridges. These two stone bridges are reminders of Guam’s Spanish-colonial era. They are a couple of the few remaining bridges built using Spanish stone and mortar construction, and are listed on the Guam and National Registers of Historic Sites.

The village also hosts a variety of activities and events for all ages. One popular activity is the Tuesday Night Market which is held at the Agat Saga Bisita located next to the Mayor’s Office. This site is also the location for the very popular Mango Festival. The Mango Festival is held annually and includes a canoe paddling race, local displays, vendor booths, and a mango culinary competition to celebrate the mango harvest. This is a great event and highly recommended for the entire family.

Agat is also home of the popular Agat Marina for the seafaring adventurers. The Agat Small Boat Marina is a modern facility for docking small boats. The facility includes a sea rescue operation, restaurant and icehouse. It is a popular location for annual fishing derbies and daily charter fishing trips for local residents and tourists.

If you’re still looking for more adventure, Hap’s Reef is a popular site for divers and snorkelers to enjoy different marine life. Pilot whales are also known to be seen from this location. You are sure to enjoy the sites of Guam’s underwater jungle.
